3M™ Reflective Polarizing Mirror (RPM) is a reflective polarizing mirror film used in half mirror type applications to provide increased brightness for the LCD unit embedded in the mirror assembly. It is a multilayer polyester-based film with adhesive.

Application and configuration

Display and mirror integration

Reflective polarizing mirror film supports a display behind a partial mirror. The display polarization, film axis, adhesive and surrounding surfaces must be reviewed as a complete optical assembly.

Cut-part drawing and orientation

Define the cut outline, usable aperture, thickness, tabs, notches, corner radii and tolerances. Identify prism direction or transmission axis, structured/coated face, liner handling and a physical orientation datum. A 0° or 45° catalog reference must be tied to the drawing datum.

Backlight development and repair

Use the material in a custom optical stack or evaluate it against the original film in an existing backlight. Review luminance, uniformity, viewing angle, polarization, color and temperature behavior. Repair acceptance is based on the assembled display and agreed requirements; a similar gauge or family name does not establish equivalence.

From reference to a controlled part

Start with the application and available space. Develop a drawing with custom dimensions and performance specifications, review the proposed configuration, and evaluate samples where needed. Record the approved drawing revision and acceptance criteria for the supplied part. Availability and final configuration are confirmed during quotation.
