Product Detail: OPA / MOD / Dow 527 / Clear Potting Silicone

Silicone families and enhancements

All silicone materials · Momentive silicones · Dow silicones · Optica silicones

Platinum-cure silicone enhancements — catalyst, adhesion promoters, crosslinker and retarder.

Enhancements are developed for the selected silicone and application; compatibility and final optical clarity are established by testing.

Silicone kit sizes

5 g · 30 g · 100 g · 250 g · 500 g · 1000 g · 1900 g · 7296 g · 36000 g — combined A+B net mass.

Custom repackaged sizes of 100, 250, 500 and 1000 g are included alongside the existing package sizes listed above. Select the size and formulation options, then add the selection to your Interest List. Parts A and B are supplied separately in the required mixing ratio. Pack mass does not change the formulation’s specified mixing basis.

Technical description

SYLGARD™ 527 is a two-part, 1:1 mix ratio silicone dielectric gel. It is a polydimethylsiloxane gel with low mixed viscosity, designed to flow well and cure into an extremely soft material. The manufacturer’s data sheet identifies it as a two-part, 1:1 dielectric gel with approximately 1.98 hours of working time at 25°C.

In its base formulation, SYLGARD™ 527 cures to a very soft, stress-relieving gel. It reaches a no-flow state before full cure; softness is not evidence that a properly cured gel remains an uncured liquid. For optical bonding, evaluate creep, edge containment, mechanical support, adhesion and environmental durability in the actual display assembly.

We use the base gel as a starting material for optical coupling and application-specific optical bonding development. Any change in stiffness, cure behavior or adhesion belongs to the FPD.DEV-modified formulation and must be characterized separately from the Dow base material.

Custom package sizes support development trials and small production quantities. Current lot availability, package and lead time are confirmed for the selected material.

Historical FPD.DEV development comparison

The following values are retained as historical development guidance, not Dow specifications or currently qualified product limits. Test temperature, batch size, cure endpoint and mix-ratio basis must be established for a new formulation. The 1–10 hardness entries are a relative comparison scale, not Shore hardness or a standardized gel-hardness measurement. Current lot validation is pending.

Our experience with 527-type silicones extends to application-specific development of handling time, cured response and bond-line stability. The historical examples guide further trials; an agreed formulation and test record define the performance supplied for your application.

Manufacturer reference: Dow SYLGARD™ 527 TDS, Form 11-3136-01-1123 (2023), lists a typical 1.98-hour working time at 25°C and heat-cure T90 values of 210 minutes at 100°C, 75 minutes at 125°C and 35 minutes at 150°C. T90 is the manufacturer’s cure endpoint; it is not interchangeable with a handling or set time. These base-material values do not apply automatically to the modified examples.

Optical bonding of LCD, OLED and MicroLED displays

Optical bonding of LCD displays, OLED displays and MicroLED displays is a core FPD.DEV expertise. We develop silicone materials and processes around the complete display stack: cover glass, coatings, touch layers, bond-line thickness, optical performance and assembly requirements.

Material selection and formulation are evaluated for the actual display, substrates and cure process. A clear silicone alone does not establish compatibility with every display technology.

Base material and FPD.DEV enhancement development

FPD.DEV develops modified silicone formulations outside the original manufacturer’s specifications. Manufacturer data describe the unmodified base material under the stated conditions; they do not establish the performance or approval of an FPD.DEV-modified formulation.

Custom packaging alone does not change the chemistry. Additive blending, mix-ratio changes and other formulation modifications require their own identification, mixing instructions and application-specific testing. Working time, cure, adhesion, optical clarity and storage stability are established for the modified system.
