SCHOTT NG11 neutral-gray display contrast filter

Light SCHOTT NG11 neutral-gray absorptive filter for display contrast enhancement. 3.0 mm; Uncoated. Cut size and optical requirements quoted to your drawing.

Thickness and transmission

Published uncoated catalog transmission reference: 42.2–45.9% at 3.0 mm. This catalog selection range is not a guaranteed photopic or LCD-weighted transmission specification.

Material reference at 1 mm: 77% nominal internal transmission at 546 nm, excluding surface reflections. Transmission changes with thickness and wavelength. Coated versions do not inherit uncoated catalog transmission values.

Surface finish

Both surfaces uncoated.

Define your assembly

Specify cut width and height, thickness tolerance, edge finish, cosmetic requirements, mounting, bonding and operating environment. Standard optical-filter thickness references are 1, 2 and 3 mm; 0.7, 1.1 and 1.6 mm are custom finishing requests. Thin-glass feasibility, size, supply and delivery are confirmed by quotation.

Neutral gray attenuates display light once and ambient light reflected behind the filter twice. Front-surface reflection requires separate control. Check the complete display stack and ambient conditions.

Compare thicknesses on the spectral graph

The overlaid colored curves show calculated internal transmittance at 0.7, 1.1, 1.6, 2 and 3 mm. The dashed curve is SCHOTT NG11 published reference data at 1.00 mm. Each wavelength is scaled using the Bouguer–Lambert relation: Ti(d) = Ti(dref)d/dref.

These estimates assume homogeneous glass and normal incidence. Internal transmission excludes surface reflections and BBAR/AR coating effects; it is not the total transmission of a finished coated product. Thinner glass transmits more useful light but also more unwanted light in rejection bands. The best thickness depends on the LCD spectrum, ambient light and complete optical stack. The plotted thicknesses do not establish stock or fabrication availability.
