SCHOTT S8808 contrast-enhancement glass

SCHOTT S8808 contrast-enhancement glass selection, 0.7 mm custom finished thickness; Uncoated. Cut size, spectral requirements and processing feasibility confirmed by quotation.

Match the glass to the display

SCHOTT identifies S8808 as a contrast-enhancement glass. Select using its verified spectral transmission at the finished thickness, the LCD red, green and blue output, ambient illumination and the complete optical stack. A contrast-enhancement designation alone does not establish an RGB-matched tri-notch passband or a guaranteed contrast ratio.

Custom thickness and fabrication

0.7 mm is a requested finished thickness, not a claim of standard stock. Raw material, clear aperture and processing feasibility require confirmation. Where bulk optical glass is used, fabrication can include slicing, grinding, polishing and edge finishing. Supply is subject to an approved drawing and quotation.

Surface finish

Both surfaces uncoated. Specify the intended bonding or air-gap arrangement.

Specify your requirements

Provide width, height, clear aperture, thickness tolerance, edge finish, cosmetic quality, operating environment and the LCD spectral data. Transmission, material availability and delivery require confirmation for the finished configuration.

Compare thicknesses on the spectral graph

The overlaid colored curves show calculated internal transmittance at 0.7, 1.1, 1.6, 2 and 3 mm. The dashed curve is SCHOTT S8808 published reference data at 3.50 mm. Each wavelength is scaled using the Bouguer–Lambert relation: Ti(d) = Ti(dref)d/dref.

These estimates assume homogeneous glass and normal incidence. Internal transmission excludes surface reflections and BBAR/AR coating effects; it is not the total transmission of a finished coated product. Thinner glass transmits more useful light but also more unwanted light in rejection bands. The best thickness depends on the LCD spectrum, ambient light and complete optical stack. The plotted thicknesses do not establish stock or fabrication availability.
